Frequently asked questions about COVID-19 testing

The COVID-19 diagnostic test checks for a current infection by detecting the genetic material of the virus in respiratory secretions. You should get tested if you are experiencing symptoms or if you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

If you’re uninsured, your COVID-19 test will be covered under the CARES Act if you’ve been exposed to COVID-19 or have COVID-19 symptoms. If you’re uninsured and are seeking a COVID-19 test for work, travel or curiosity, you will be charged $179.00 a rapid test and/or $199.25 for a PCR test.

The COVID-19 rapid antibody test is available for patients who have never been symptomatic or have been symptomatic but have recovered from acute illness for 2 weeks. The test requires a provider evaluation and is not used to diagnose a current COVID-19 infection. A negative result does not rule out infection and does not imply or confirm that you have developed an immunity to the COVID-19 virus. It only indicates a likelihood that you’ve had exposure to or were infected by the virus in the past.

West Madison Urgent Care accepts most insurance plans and will bill your plan if you’ve been exposed to COVID-19 or have COVID-19 symptoms. Your deductible or copay may apply depending on your plan benefits. At the time of care, you will be asked to pay your co-pay or deductible. Many insurance plans do not cover a COVID-19 test for work, travel or curiosity. If your insurance does not cover a COVID-19 test for these reasons, the cost is $179.00 for a rapid test and/or $199.25 for a PCR test. West Madison Urgent Care will still bill your insurance as a courtesy, and will refund the amount paid if your insurance plan reimburses the visit.

If you’re experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, it’s important that you also get tested.
